Composing a Future
College Park Kids Choir is now in it’s fifth term, Fall 2025! The vision for this choir was to grow and take root in the community by bringing children together who go to different schools, educate alternatively, have different faith practices, but who all love to sing and play, and whose families want to build lasting community.
St. John’s Episcopal Church facilitated the start of this movement along with founding Choir Director, Dr. Tamika Kelly and leadership parent, Grace McPhillips Lunsford.
Cameron Carey has now stepped in to lead the kids into their fifth season of choir and we could not be more excited for his leadership and love of Disney classics!
So is CP Kids Choir a religious choir?
While CP Kids Choir does meet in a church, and is financially supported by the congregation for scholarship tuition, no, it is not a religious choir. Some families attend the church, others don’t practice a faith tradition, and others go to other churches. There is no evangelism, though the Priest will typically pray before the bread is broken. At St. John’s ALL ARE WELCOME. The church believes in hope and specifically wanted to meet a community need. By doing so, SJEC lives out their faith but will never push anything on the Kids’ Choir members or families.
As we grow, we need continued participation. Please sign up below and send Grace a text (773) 991-9509, so we can begin to gather around these children and families and grow a beautiful musical legacy.
